If you're looking for the best advice to beat the NCAA basketball wagering odds, you've certainly come to the right place. Here at Bookmaker sportsbook, we're previewing the college basketball season, taking a look at 2011 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 participant the Richmond Spiders.
NCAA baskeball Betting Online: Last year's NCAA Tournament had several mid-major Cinderellas make a deep run, and the Richmond Spiders were one of those feel-good stories. Richmond went 27-7 in the regular seasona and finished 13-3 in the Atlantic-10 to gain a berth into March Madness. Once there, the Spiders defeated Vanderbilt and Morehead State to advance all the way to the Sweet Sixteen. The magic ended there, as Richmond was soundly defeated by No. 1 seed Kansas, but it was certainly a run to remember.
Richmond is hoping to build off last year's success, although it could be a chore. The team was led last year by the duo of Justin Harper and Kevin Anderson. Harper led the team in scoring at 17.9 points and rebounds with 6.9 per contest. He was also second on the team with 1.2 blocks per game. Anderson was a star all four years at the school, and he averaged 16.6 points, 3.3 assists and a team-leading 1.4 steals per game last year. Both were seniors and will not be back, which leads a big void for the Spiders. Furthermore, third-leading scorer Dan Geriot (9.5 points per game) will also not be back. Much of the onus will be put on Darien Brothers and Francis-Cedric Martel. Brothers averaged 7.6 points per game and shot nearly 41 percent from three-point range, and will be counted on to increase his scoring this season without Harper or Anderson. Martel averaged 4.6 points and 3.6 rebounds and will also need to produce more for Richmond.
Last year's team was senior dominated, which certainly helped the Spiders as they made their run through March Madness. This could be a tougher year, though, because of the loss of Anderson and Harper. The younger players have some big shoes to fill, and Richmond will need to find new go-to players if it has plans of returning to the NCAA Tournament in NCAA basketball wagering.
