NCAA basketball Betting Online: The Brigham Young Cougars had a great season last year, finishing 32-5 and making it to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament, where it fell in overtime to the Florida Gators. BYU would like to have similar production this year, although it will be a chore replacing star Jimmer Fredette. The high-scoring point guard has taken his game to the NBA, and now it remains to be seen how well the Cougars deal with that loss. Fredette averaged 28.5 points per game last season as he was one of the most prolific scorers in the past few years of college basketball. Fredette also led the team in assists with 4.2 per game, so point guard is definitely a void that needs to be filled.

BYU has had success replacing stars before, most recently Lee Cummard, who was the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year as a junior. In addition to Fredette, the Cougars will be losing Jackson Emery, the school's all-time steals leader who also was second on the team in scoring last year with 12.5 points per game. Despite the loss of Fredette and Emery, the team does have some talent returning. Brandon Davies was suspended for the end of last year for breaking school policy, but has been reinstated for 2011-12. He scored 11.1 points per game and led the team in rebounding with 6.2 per contest. Noah Hartsock (8.5 points, 5.9 rebounds) and Charles Abouo (7.2 points, 4.8 rebounds) are also back in the frontcourt as the Cougars may rely more on their post play this season without Fredette and with those players back.

Brigham Young has a decent number of players coming back and some promising freshmen, but the biggest question mark is at point guard. If the Cougars can find a reasonable replacement for Fredette, they should be in the NCAA Tournament mix again. If not, it could lead to more losses for a program that has won 25 or more games in five straight seasons. Keep an eye on BYU early to see how things are progressing in NCAA basketball gambling.
