NBA Betting Online: The San Antonio Spurs is one of the most successful franchises in the history of the NBA. They currently compete in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference.

The Spurs were founded in 1967 and rank third among active NBA clubs in terms of winning percentage. During its prolific history, the team has won four NBA championships, four conference titles and 17 division titles.

The Spurs play home games at AT&T Center in San Antonio. Each year, the Spurs embark on a lengthy road trip dubbed the "Rodeo Road Trip" because a stock and rodeo show takes over the arena for two weeks. In 2003, they set an NBA record during this trip with eight straight road victories.

Originally founded as the Dallas Chaparrals, the franchise competed in the American Basketball Association from 1967 to 1975. The team was a perennial ABA title contender with players like George Gervin, James Silas and Swen Nater.

The ABA-NBA merger occurred in June of 1976 and the Spurs, along with the Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers and New York Nets, entered the flourishing league. Gervin led them to a 52-30 record and Central Division title during the inaugural NBA season, but they were ousted by the Washington Bullets in the playoffs despite Gervin's 33.2 points-per-game average.

During a relative inauspicious stretch from 1986 to 1989 when San Antonio went 115-213, the team did find one diamond in the rough. With the No. 1 overall pick in the 1987 NBA Draft, team management selected David Robinson out of Navy. But Robinson couldn't play until the 1989-90 season because he had to serve his two-year duty with the military.

During Robinson's rookie season, the Spurs went 56-26 and won their division. They would eventually lose in the semis to Portland but "The Admiral" won Rookie of the Year honors with season averages of 24.3 points and 12.0 rebounds.

San Antonio was a perennial playoff contender until the 1996-97 campaign when it posted a team-low 20 wins. Gregg Popovich moved from his GM position to head coach early in the season and that year marked the last time the Spurs would miss the playoffs.

With the top pick in the NBA Draft that offseason, Popovich plucked Wake Forest's star player Tim Duncan. Robinson and Duncan forged the most formidable frontcourt in the league over the next five years. Duncan, affectionately called "The Big Fundamental," garnered Rookie of the Year accolades his first season with averages of 21.1 points and 11.9 rebounds.

The Twin Towers terrorized opponents while advancing to the 1999 NBA Finals in the strike-shortened season. The Spurs played the New York Knicks and downed them in five games to capture their first NBA title.

In 2002-03, the Spurs moved into a new arena and Robinson announced it would be his final season in the NBA. San Antonio still operated around its two centerpieces but there were new faces on the roster including Tony Parker, Stephen Jackson, Danny Ferry, Bruce Bowen, Steve Kerr, Steve Smith and Manu Ginobili.

In the playoffs, the Spurs defeated the Suns, Lakers and Dallas Mavericks en route to facing the New Jersey Nets in the NBA Finals. The matchup marked the first time two former ABA teams played against each other in the NBA Championship. Robinson went out on top as San Antonio won the series four games to two.

After Robinson left, the offense quickly tailored to the strengths of Duncan, Parker and Ginobili. They won another title during the 2004-05 season, and then again in 2006-07. Their fourth championship in nine years qualified the Spurs as a dynasty.

San Antonio's four NBA titles are more than any other NBA franchise except the Celtics, Lakers and Bulls. The team's Finals record of 4-0 is only matched by the Bulls who won all six of their trips. The Spurs have not missed the playoffs since Duncan was drafted. And since 1997, they carry the highest winning percentage among the four major sports leagues, having won 69.6 percent of their games.
