NBA Betting Online: The Sacramento Kings franchise was founded in 1945. The team currently plays in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference.

The club traces its origins to a New York-based team in the early 1920s, making it one of the oldest basketball clubs still in existence. The Kings are the only team in the four major American sports leagues located in Sacramento.

The Kings have captured two championships during their lengthy history (1 NBL and 1 NBA), one conference title and five division titles. They host homes games at Power Balance Pavilion in the capital city of California.

Originally called the Rochester Royals, the franchise joined the National Basketball League in 1945. The Royals became a member of Basketball Association of America in 1948 and then moved into the National Basketball Association a year later when the two leagues merged.

Rochester was a small market so the Royals relocated to Cincinnati in 1957. In 1972, the team moved again, this time splitting games between the cities of Kansas City, Missouri, and Omaha, Nebraska for three seasons. This is when they tossed the Royals mascot and officially became the Kings.

After a decade of playing only in Kansas City, the Kings permanently moved to Sacramento in 1985. But that placement could change in the near future.

The Kings two basketball championships came early in their history. They won the inaugural season of the NBL in 1945-46 and their first NBA title in 1951. Notable names from these squads include Bob Davies, Al Cervi, George Glamack, Otto Graham, Alex Hannum, Les Harrison, Red Holzman and Chuck Connors.

The team's star players throughout the 1960s were Oscar Robertson and Jerry Lucas. These prolific scorers would contend regularly in the playoffs but the Kings could never get past perennial powerhouse teams like the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers.

During the late 1990s, with players like Jason Williams, Chris Webber and Peja Stojakovic, Sacramento became competitive once again. The team made the playoffs in consecutive seasons from 1998 to 2000 but fell to the Jazz and Lakers in the opening rounds.

The Kings won their first playoffs series in twenty years in 2001 after defeating the Phoenix Suns in four games. But the following season was their best, finishing at 61-21, which was the league's top record.

Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals that year is one of infamy. Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy said the officiating team was instructed to not let the Lakers lose against Sacramento. There were multiple controversial foul calls on the Kings and L.A. tied the series up with a victory before winning Game 7 on their home court.

The state of the current Kings squad is uncertain. It boasts loads of young talent with players like Tyreke Evans, DeMarcus Cousins and Jimmer Fredette. In his first year, Evans became just the fourth rookie player in NBA history to average at least 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game.

Unproven players spawn uncertainty, but so do the Kings owners. The Maloof brothers aimed to move the Kings to Anaheim following the 2010-11 season because of fledging ticket sales, but their efforts were thwarted at the tail end of the process.

Billionaire Ron Burkle has stated that he is eager to buy the Kings and keep them in Sacramento. Mayor Kevin Johnson, a former NBA player, also committed $10 million from local businesses as a show of support from Sacramento. The fans showed up to games in throngs the last month of the season to show they still loved the Kings.

But unless the city of Sacramento can construct a new arena by the start of the 2012-13 season, it looks as if the team will relocate to Anaheim, where it will become the Anaheim Royals.
