NBA Betting Online: Bookmaker Sportsbook is back with another look at one of the 30 teams in the NBA in preparation for the 2012-13 season. The Portland Trail Blazers are a tough team to gauge on the basketball odds for the coming year, knowing that they have a great pedigree but are lacking the depth and star power to compete in the big time Western Conference.
Beating the basketball odds is never something that is easy, but we are here to help you out. Today, we are analyzing the Portland Trail Blazers and their chances of competing for the NBA title in the 2012-13 NBA season.
It was only a few years ago that the Blazers really thought that they were rebuilding around C Greg Oden and G Brandon Roy. Oden's bad knees just never let him pan out, and Roy's bad knees ultimately forced him into a premature retirement. What's left is a squad that just doesn't have all that much to build around for the future, save for a lot of salary cap room after this year.
To beat the basketball betting odds this year, Portland is going to have to get a heck of a lot out of F LaMarcus Aldridge. He and F Nicolas Batum are really the only men that are back that have the ability to score 15-20+ points per game as far as we see it.
G Jamal Crawford left via free agency, and he was good for 14.0 points per game. G Raymond Felton was the team's starting point guard, and he is now with the New York Knicks.
Beating the basketball gambling odds just won't happen without these players that replaced these men stepping up. G Damian Lillard at least looks to be starting off the year as the starting point guard, and the combination of G Ronnie Price and G Elliot Williams will be coming off of the bench. We also look for F J.J. Hickson to play well, as he averaged over 15 points per game after getting traded to the Blazers with just 20 games remaining last season.
Portland went just 8-25 SU away from the Rose Garden last year, and as a result, the team was a suspect one on the basketball wagering odds at just 32-33-1 ATS. The squad leaned towards 'over' games at 35-31.
This year should be much more of the same for the Trail Blazers. They just don't have the depth beyond Batum and Aldridge, nor do they have the backcourt to be able to compete in the Western Conference. Just getting to 35 wins this year might feel like an accomplishment for a team that really needs some more stars to shine to think that it has a chance.
