NBA Betting Online: The Phoenix Suns were founded as an expansion team in 1968. They currently play in the Pacific Division of the NBA's Western Conference.

During their 43-year history, the Suns have earned two conference championships and six division titles. They own the fourth-best all-time winning percentage in the NBA, making them the most successful franchise to never win an NBA championship.

Phoenix has qualified for the postseason 29 times, made nine trips to the Western Conference Finals, advanced to the NBA Finals twice and posted nineteen seasons of 50-plus wins.

The Suns play home games at US Airways Center. The arena is located in downtown Phoenix and is often referred to as the "Purple Palace" because of its purple seats.

Johnny "Red" Kerr was the Suns first head coach and Jerry Colangelo served as the general manager. They grabbed future Hall of Famer Gail Goodrich and Dick Van Arsdale in the 1968 expansion draft but finished the inaugural season at 16-66, 25 games out of the final postseason spot.

Phoenix clinched its first playoff berth in 1969-1970 with the help of players Paul Westphal, Alvan Adams and Ricky Sobers. The team made it all the way to the NBA Finals that season but lost to Boston in six games.

Eight consecutive playoff appearances during the late 1970s and early 1980s were marred by an off-court drug sting. In 1987, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office indicted 13 people on drug-related charges, including three members of the Suns -- James Edwards, Jay Humphries and Grant Gondrezick.

Phoenix started to rebuild with players like Kevin Johnson, Dan Majerle, Danny Ainge and Kurt Rambis. By 1992, the Suns had also landed former Philadelphia star Charles Barkley.

Barkley won Most Valuable Player in 1993 and the team won 62 games, tying a franchise record. They took out the Lakers, Spurs and Sonics as the top seed in the West bracket of the playoffs, but couldn't get past Michael Jordan's Bulls in the NBA Finals.

The next prolific era for the Suns came from 2004 to 2010, when guys like Steve Nash, Amar'e Stoudemire, Joe Johnson and Shawn Marion highlighted the roster. They won 62 games during the 2004-05 campaign and were perennial playoff contenders.

The Suns really exploded offensively when Mike D'Antoni showed up as head coach. His "7 Seconds or Less" or run-and-gun approach to the game produced the highest scoring offense in basketball. He was named Coach of the Year in his first season with Phoenix.

The Suns would return the Western Conference Finals under Alvin Gentry in 2009-2010, armed with the same up-tempo offensive approach, but they fell to the Lakers in six games.

Stoudemire wasn't re-signed before the 2010-11 campaign and Phoenix went into somewhat of a rebuilding mode. Nash is still the team leader but most of the pieces of the playoff teams are gone.

The Suns window to win with Nash is closing fast, as he is approaching the delicate age of 38. Gentry has some young studs to work with, such as Aaron Brooks and 2011 draftee Markieff Morris, but replacing a two-time MVP at point guard won't be easy when it happens.
