NBA Betting Online: The New Orleans Hornets were founded in 1988 as an NBA expansion franchise. They currently play in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference.

The Hornets don't have much hardware in the trophy case, capturing no championships and just one division title, which came in 2008. They host home games at the New Orleans Arena.

For the first 14 years of their existence, the Hornets played in Charlotte, North Carolina. The organization led the NBA in attendance in eight of its first ten seasons.

The team's first playoff appearance came during the 1992-93 season. The new-look Hornets were very popular then, featuring stars like Larry Johnson, Muggsy Bogues and Alonzo Mourning. They beat the Celtics in the opening round but lost to New York in the East semis.

Charlotte posted back-to-back playoff appearances in 1996-97 and 1997-98 with the help of Glen Rice. But after a few years of low attendance the team's time on the East Coast came to a close. The Hornets ended their tenure in Charlotte in 2002 with an overall record of 522-546.

On October 30, 2002, the Hornets squared off against New Orleans' previous NBA franchise, the Jazz. The home team won in dominating fashion if front of a packed house, 100-75.

Brazen point guard Baron Davis was the unquestioned captain of this squad. He was regularly injured but the Hornets still managed to post a 47-35 record in their first season in the South. They would make the playoffs but lose to Philadelphia in the first round.

New Orleans qualified for the postseason again in 2003-04 but then the team moved into the more competitive Western Conference the following season. After finishing with an 18-64 record, Davis and Jamal Mashburn were traded.

Hurricane Katrina tragically devastated the Gulf Coast in 2004 and the Hornets were forced to temporarily relocate. They spent the next two seasons playing between Oklahoma City and various Louisiana destinations.

During this difficult period, the organization did land an incredible draft pick. With the fourth pick in the 2005 NBA draft, the Hornets took Chris Paul out of Wake Forest. Paul would win Rookie of the Year in his first season but the team finished 10th in the West. In one game, they set a dubious NBA record with 16 points in the second half.

The Hornets returned to New Orleans for good prior to the 2007-2008 season. Their return helped stimulate the struggling coast economy that had been decimated by Katrina.

With great fan support, Paul and David West led the team to a 56-26 mark, which stands as the best record in team history. The Hornets went on to defeat the Mavericks in the first round but then lost to San Antonio.

The current New Orleans roster is led by Paul and West, and includes players like Emeka Okafor, Trevor Ariza, Willie Green, Aaron Gray, Marco Belinelli, Quincy Pondexter and Jason Smith.

The team has become a defensive-minded one under head coach Monty Williams. It held its first 10 opponents of the 2010-11 season to fewer than 100 points. Despite Paul being injured much of the year, the Hornets qualified for the postseason where they were defeated by the Lakers in six games.
