Last season, the Timberwolves went from being the worst in the league to a team that showed the potential to at least beat some of the best teams on the NBA betting odds. Yes, they were still nowhere near the playoffs, but this is a major rebuilding project that the team has undertaken, and there is still a lot of room for growth.
Still, if you look at the depth chart for the T'Wolves, you have to at least be remotely intrigued. G Ricky Rubio should be back in the fold, and he proved last year that he is one of the most explosive point guards in the league, and he is going to have a new backcourt mate in G Alexey Shved, who showed during the Olympics that he can be the real deal at the highest level.
Of course, the league's top double-double man, F Kevin Love is going to be back with vengeance, and he is going to be teaching F Derrick Williams how to hone his craft as well. Gone is F Michael Beasley, but the rest of the team's top scorers, including C Nikola Pekovic are back to help Minnesota beat the NBA gambling odds.
When Rubio was on the court last year, the Timberwolves were really able to get up and go. There was a point that they were one of the better cover teams in the league, and they were also a normal 'over' squad to boot. However, at the end of the year when all of the injuries were accounted for, Minnesota was just 31-35 ATS and 30-34-2 for 'over' backers.
This year is going to be a lot more exciting for sure on the NBA wagering odds. Neither the Utah Jazz nor the Portland Trail Blazers really look like they're going to be massive competitors, and the T'Wolves could sneak up if not surpass them in the standings this season. This is a team that has to believe in itself and stay healthy, and if it does, Minnesota could take some steps towards once again competing in the tough Western Conference.
