NBA Betting Online: The Memphis Grizzlies entered the National Basketball Association as an expansion team in 1995. They compete in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference.

Originally located in Vancouver, the Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors were part of the NBA's re-expansion into Canada. They were the first teams north of the American border since the 1946 Toronto Huskies.

Common with most young expansion franchises, the Grizzlies have no championships or division titles. Memphis currently plays its home games at FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee.

While stationed in Vancouver for six seasons, the Grizz finished last in the division five times and never managed to achieve a .300 win percentage. The Grizzlies wrapped up their time north of the border with a 101-359 record before heading south in 2001.

Pau Gasol was taken as Memphis' top pick in the 2001 NBA Draft, third overall. The center from Spain was named Rookie of the Year that season and would quickly become the focal point of the team's offense.

Flanked with players like Shane Battier, Mike Miller and James Posey, Gasol and the Grizzlies earned a playoff berth for the first time in 2004 under the direction of head coach Hubie Brown.

Brown stepped down in the middle of the following season so the team hired former coach Mike Fratello as a replacement. When he took over, Memphis had a losing record but the team resurged under Fratello and qualified for its second straight postseason. The Grizz were swept again in the opening round, this time by the Suns.

The roster underwent a major overhaul in 2005-06. Gone were regulars like Bonzi Wells, Jason Williams, Stromile Swift and James Posey and in were guys like Damon Stoudamire, Bobby Jackson, Hakim Warrick and Eddie Jones. Despite the massive change in personnel, the Grizzlies made it back to the postseason. However, they were swept for the third straight season, this time at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks.

Memphis couldn't contend the following year because Gasol broke his foot while playing for Spain in the World Championships. General Manager Jerry West sent fan-favorite Battier to Houston in a trade and then stepped down at season's end. The Grizz finished with a league-low 22 wins.

And then in one of the dumbest trades in NBA history, new GM Chris Wallace sent Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers for basically nothing in terms of talent. Many said it was a salary dump move but it essentially handed the Lakers titles in 2009 and 2010.

Even Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich criticized the trade saying, "What they did in Memphis is beyond comprehension. There should be a trade committee that can scratch all trades that make no sense."

Lionel Hollins was named Memphis' head coach on January 25, 2009 and he is steadily building a winner. Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol, Pau's younger brother, are budding into one of the fiercest frontcourt tandems in the league. Rudy Gay, Mike Conley Jr., Tony Allen and O.J. Mayo can score and defend on the perimeter.

Even without their best player, Gay, most of the season, the Grizzlies earned a playoff spot in 2011 behind a 46-36 record. They were heavy underdogs going up against the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs in the first round but pulled off the epic upset by winning the series in six games. It marked just the second time in NBA history a No. 1 seed fell to a No. 8 seed in a seven-game format.

Memphis would get knocked out by Oklahoma City in seven games during the semis but this is a team with tons of upside. Look for Hollins to continue to build a contender with a nucleus of young talent.
