NBA Betting Online: The Los Angeles Clippers began play as a professional basketball team in 1970. They currently compete in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference.

Long labeled as one of the most unsuccessful teams in the history of American sports, the Clippers have never won their division, conference or a championship. They are often called the Clips or the Clip-Joint.

The Clippers play home games at Staples Center. They share the arena with the crosstown rival Lakers, the Kings of the NHL and the Sparks of the WNBA.

The franchise started as the Buffalo Braves as an expansion team in 1970, along with the Portland Trail Blazers and Cleveland Cavaliers. The Braves first head coach was Dolph Schayes and the star players on that team were Bob Kauffman and Don May.

Buffalo reached the playoffs for the first time in 1974, where it squared off against the Celtics dynasty, losing the series in six games. That season, Bob McAdoo averaged more than 30 points and 15 rebounds per game, and he's the last player to ever so do.

The Braves advanced to the postseason the following two years before relocating to San Diego. There, the organization adopted the "Clippers" mascot. The team went 43-39 under head coach Gene Shue in its inaugural season as the San Diego Clippers.

Bill Walton, a San Diego native, joined the team but foot injuries forced him to miss the majority of the two seasons he played. After little success in San Diego, the Clips moved Los Angeles permanently in 1984.

The first decade or so in L.A. was fruitless. During the 1986-87 season, the Clippers went 12-70, establishing the worst record in NBA history at that time.

Larry Brown took over as head coach in January of 1992 and led the team to its first winning campaign in 13 years. At 45-37, the Clippers advanced to the postseason for the first time in 16 years and also finished with a better record than the Lakers for the first time ever.

L.A. was defeated by the Utah Jazz in the first round. The team made it back to the playoffs the following season but was ousted by the Rockets in the first round.

In 2005-06, the Clips had a good nucleus of players consisting of Chris Kaman, Corey Maggette, Elton Brand and Sam Cassell. They achieved their first winning record in 14 years at 47-35 and clinched their first playoff spot since 1997. With the sixth seed in the Western Conference, L.A. upset Denver in the first round but lost to Phoenix in the semis.

Injuries and turmoil plagued the franchise for the next three seasons. The bad luck even carried over to the team's future savior -- power forward Blake Griffin. In the last preseason game, Griffin broke his kneecap and would miss the entire 2009-10 campaign.

But Griffin came back for his rookie season stronger and smarter with a year of NBA sideline-watching under his belt. He became the nightly dunk show with hair-raising, monster jams.

Griffin currently leads a talented squad that includes young players like DeAndre Jordan, Eric Gordon, Craig Smith, Eric Bledsoe and Randy Foye. The Clippers are coached by former player Vinny Del Negro.
