NBA Betting Online: The Houston Rockets began play in the NBA as an expansion franchise in 1967. They currently compete in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference.

During their 44-year history, the Rockets have captured two NBA championships, four conference crowns and four division titles. They play home games at the Toyota Center in downtown Houston.

Starting in 1967, the organization played in San Diego for the first four years of existence. Despite qualifying for the playoffs in 1969 there was little support from the community so the Rockets moved to Houston prior to the 1971-72 season.

With lifelong Rockets such as Calvin Murphy and Rudy Tomjanovich on the 1975 squad, Houston made their second playoff appearance and defeated New York in the opening round. But the Boston Celtics were too much to handle in the semis and Houston lost in five games.

The following year Moses Malone was acquired. He took the Rockets to the conference finals in 1976 and to the NBA Finals in 1981, where they lost to the 76ers and Celtics. Malone would go on to win a pair of MVP awards during his six-year tenure with Houston.

The Rockets won a coin flip and obtained the first pick in the 1983 NBA Draft. With that, team brass took Ralph Sampson out of the University of Virginia. The following draft was just as fruitful, selecting shot-blocking center Hakeem Olajuwon. These two future Hall of Famers would become known as the "Twin Towers" and lead Houston to the playoffs five times in the next seven years.

Tomjanovich returned to Houston as head coach in 1993-94. The team got off to a blazing start, 15-0, with Olajuwon performing like an MVP and the Defensive Player of the Year -- both of which he won. The Rockets rolled through the postseason and claimed their first championship by disposing of the New York Knicks in the Finals.

Hakeem "The Dream" continued his stellar play the following year. The Rockets made a key midseason trade when they acquired Clyde Drexler from Portland. Houston again had little trouble in the West playoff bracket and then swept Shaquille O'Neal, Anfernee Hardaway and the Orlando Magic in the NBA Finals.

After Olajuwon was traded to Toronto, the Rockets wouldn't reach the playoffs again until 2004 when Chinese sensation Yao Ming and veteran guard Tracy McGrady teamed up. They didn't get past the first round again until 2009.

Ming's promising career was plagued by injuries and he has since retired. The team currently has players like Kevin Martin, Jordan Hill, Kyle Lowry, Courtney Lee, Goran Dragic, Chase Budinger, Jonny Flynn and Luis Scola.

The Rockets posted winning records in both 2009-10 and 2010-11 but failed to qualify for the playoffs in the highly-competitve Western Conference. Rick Adelman was relieved of his head coaching duties in 2011 and former NBA great Kevin McHale was hired as his replacement.
