NBA Betting Online: The Detroit Pistons are one of the most notorious and prolific franchises in the history of the NBA.

The Pistons compete in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. They have captured eight championships (5 NBL and 3 NBA), seven conference crowns and 17 division titles.

Detroit currently plays home games at The Palace of Auburn Hills, which is located in Auburn Hills, Michigan, a suburb of the Motor City.

The franchise was originally located in Fort Wayne, Indiana and played under the name of the Fort Wayne (Zollner) Pistons. The team left the NBL in 1948 to join the NBA, and moved to Detroit permanently in 1957.

The Pistons of the mid 1950s have been accused of throwing games for profit. One notable instance came in Game 7 of the 1955 NBA Finals. The Pistons were playing Syracuse and led the contest 41-24 early in the second quarter. Ultimately, the Nationals ended up winning on a free throw with 12 seconds left in the game.

The indicting moments in this game, other than squandering a large lead, came in the fourth quarter. George Yardley committed a rare palming turnover with 18 seconds left and then Frankie Brian committed a shooting foul on a Nats player despite having the lead. After Syracuse took a one-point lead with the second free throw, Andy Phillip turned the ball over with three seconds left.

Another infamous era in Pistons history is more fondly remembered. The 1980s teams were known as the "Bad Boys" with hard-nosed players like Bill Laimbeer, Vinnie Johnson, Rick Mahorn, John Salley, Dennis Rodman and Adrian Dantley. Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars provided the scoring proficiency while these guys provided the punch, literally.

The Pistons reached the Eastern Conference Finals during the 1986-87 season behind the physical, defense-oriented philosophy of head coach Chuck Daly, but they were defeated by the Celtics.

Detroit took out the Celtics in six games the following season but lost to Los Angeles in a seven-game NBA Finals. In 1989, the Pistons powered through the East by winning 63 games and met the Lakers in the Finals again. This time, the Pistons emerged victorious behind a four-game sweep.

Detroit successfully defended its title in 1990. They beat the Portland Trail Blazers that year and became the first team to win the middle three games of the NBA Finals on the road.

Dumars took over as team president during the 2002 offseason and he quickly gobbled up marquee players like Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Rasheed Wallace, Ben Wallace and Tayshaun Prince.

The Pistons would advance to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2003 but were swept by the New Jersey Nets. Larry Brown continued to work his magic as head coach and took Detroit back to the NBA Finals the following year.

Pegged as heavy underdogs against a dynastic Lakers team that featured Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, Gary Payton and Karl Malone, pundits gave Detroit little chance. But the Pistons shocked the basketball world and captured their third NBA championship by winning four games to one.

That corps group of players largely remained intact through the 2010-11 campaign. But there was a constant rift between head coach John Kuester and the veterans on the team all season. The separated locker room predominantly stemmed from the benching of Hamilton, who was inactive for 22 games because of the coach's decision.

Prince publicly voiced his displeasure and he and Kuester had multiple exchanges on and off the court throughout the year. Ben Gordon told the media at one point that the team wasn't playing hard. Kuester completely lost the locker room on February 25 when Tracy McGrady, Prince, Hamilton and Chris Wilcox skipped practice in protest of the coach.

In April, the Pistons reached an agreement to sell the NBA franchise to billionaire Tom Gores, who immediately fired Kuester. Former Nets coach Lawrence Frank was hired as his replacement.
