Phoenix won the draft lottery and chose Baylor star Brittney Griner with the top selection. Between Griner and star point guard Diana Taurasi, the Mercury could be a contender very quickly in 2013. The Chicago Sky also got a possible impact player on the draft with Elena Dell Donne, who should help the team improve from last season's 14-20 mark.

The Los Angeles Sparks finished second in the West last year but lost to Minnesota in the conference finals. They should again be competitive led by Candace Parker, while the San Antonio Stars were another playoff team with 20-plus wins. The Seattle Storm is set for a decline with the news coming out that stars Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson both plan to sit out this season because of injuries.

While top teams like Indiana, Connecticut, Minnesota and Los Angeles should once again be contenders, don't be surprised if Phoenix or Chicago makes a quick turnaround to join the playoff chase in 2013 WNBA wagering.
