2014 MLB Playoffs Betting Odds
- Sports Betting Articles
MLB playoffs betting odds: The MLB playoffs have developed a new format for the 2014 postseason, and it's sure to ramp up the intensity even higher. One extra team in each league will now qualify for the playoffs, and the two wild card entrants will face off in a one-game elimination playoff. The National League and the American League will hold their wild card games at the site of the team with the better record. The winners will move on to play in the divisional series in MLB wagering.
Since it is a one-game playoff, much comes down to which squad has the better ace. So even though the road team has the worse record, a better starting pitcher could actually make it the favorite. As it currently stands, the Texas Rangers would be hosting the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League wild card game. In the National League, the Cincinnati Reds hold the second wild card spot while the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals are both tied for the American League Central lead and top wild card spot. It's a huge disparity, as the division winner gets an automatic berth in the NLDS and the loser must participate in the play-in game.
A lot can happen in just one game, and the team with the home field advantage will certainly be supported by what should be a raucous crowd. However, consider the effect of the starting pitcher on each side in the wild card games in MLB wagering.
