The Giants played in Manhattan, New York, at the Polo Grounds, until the end of the 1957 season. After that, they moved to San Francisco. Another moment involving a Giants player was ‘The Catch’, in which star center fielder Willie Mays caught a fly ball over his head while running full speed in the 1954 World Series. The catch saved at least one run, and the Giants would go on to win the game and the series. The Giants made the World Series in 1962, but lost in seven games to the New York Yankees.

The Giants did not reach the World Series again until 1989. That series is best remembered for the earthquake that took place during Game 3 against the Athletics. After a ten-day delay, Oakland finished off a sweep of the Giants. San Francisco didn’t play in the World Series again until 2002, when Barry Bonds helped lead the team to a berth against the Los Angeles Angels. However, despite a 5-0 lead in the seventh inning of Game 6, the Giants blew that one and lost in seven games. Bonds won the MVP that year, one season after hitting 73 home runs to break the all-time single-season mark.

San Francisco returned to prominence in 2010, defeating the Texas Rangers in the World Series. The team relied on its deep starting pitching, led by Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain. Both players are young, and while the team’s offense is average, the Giants look to have a bright future with those two anchoring the rotation in MLB baseball gambling.
