The team joined the National League in 1890 and has been there since. Cincinnati has five World Series championships, the last one coming in 1990. The Reds have played in the Great American Ballpark since 2003. Before that, Cincinnati played at Riverfront Stadium. Bob Castellini has been the team’s majority owner since 2006.

The team’s most famous group was called ‘The Big Red Machine’, a collection of players led by Pete Rose that had great success in the 1970s. Sparky Anderson was the team’s manager, and the Reds made the World Series in 1970, 1972, 1975 and 1976, winning title in the final two years. The Reds’ won their World Series in 1990 with several standouts. Shortstop Barry Larkin and outfielder Eric Davis were a pair of the offensive standouts, and several talented relievers dubbed ‘The Nasty Boys’, led by Rod Dibble, Norm Charlton and Randy Myers helped close things out. Cincinnati defeated the Athletics in four straight games in that World Series, but haven’t returned since.

Cincinnati made the playoffs in 2010 for the first time in 15 years. The team has some solid young players and should be in the mix for the foreseeable future, although playing in the six-team National League Central makes it tougher to make the postseason. The Reds are a team to watch in MLB baseball wagering.
