If you're looking for the best advice to beat the MLB baseball wagering odds, you've certainly come to the right place. Here at Bookmaker sportsbook, we’re examining the history of the Chicago Cubs.
MLB Baseball Betting Odds: The Chicago Cubs are commonly known as the ‘Lovable Losers’ because of their more-than-100-year drought without winning the World Series. The Cubs last won the World Series in 1908 and haven’t been to the Fall Classic since 1945. It is the longest drought of any team among all four professional sports. The club played its first games in 1870 and was founded professionally in 1871. The team is owned by Tom Ricketts, who bought the team from Wrigley Company and the Chicago Tribune.
The Cubs play in the National League Central Division, along with the Astros, Cardinals, Brewers, Pirates and Reds. They last won the division in 2008, the second in a row, but lost in the National League Divisional Series both years. The Cubs last won a playoff series in 2003, and were just five outs away from making the World Series. However, in the infamous incident involving fan Steve Bartman, Moises Alou couldn’t corral a foul ball, and the Marlins rallied to win the National League Championship Series and advance to the World Series.
The Cubs have struggled in the past few years and are in a state of transition. While they are in a major market, the team has not competed well the last few years. Chicago still has one of the most festive atmospheres in baseball at Wrigley Field, and has been a great draw for MLB baseball wagering.
Baseball Betting - How to bet on the Chicago Cubs
Money Line Betting
In a money line bet, the player is only concerned with which team will win the game. There is no run total, but a favorite and underdog is still selected by the sportsbooks and determined by different odds.
A tipical baseball betting line would look like this:
- Chicago Cubs -130
- Atlanta Braves +120
In this example, the Chicago Cubs are favorite to win over the Braves. The numbers provided are the odds that each team is given to win.
A $100 bet on the Braves would win $120. But a bet on the favorites, as they are more likely to win the game, would pay $100 for every $130 wagered.
Run Line Betting
The run line in baseball betting is the equivalent to a point spread in other sports. The run line is usually set at –1.5 or +1.5.
The tipical baseball run line would look something like this:
- Chicago Cubs -1.5 ( +110)
- Atlanta Braves +1.5 (-130)
In this example, the Chicago Cubs are a 1.5-point favorite, while the Braves are considered a 1.5-point underdog. The number signifies how much is to be added or subtracted from that teams’ run total at the conclusion of the game. In the example, 1.5 is to be subtracted from the Chicago Cubs' final score, while 1.5 will be added to the Braves’ final score. The numbers next to each run total are the odds the bettor will receive on a winning bet.
A bet on the Chicago Cubs means the team has to win the game by at least 2 runs. If the bet is placed on the Braves, the team can loose the game by one run ant the bet would still win.
Total (Over/Under) Betting
A bettor can make a single wager on whether or not the combined run total for the game will be over or under set ammount, which is determined by the sportsbook before the game.
this would be a tipical over/Under betting line:
- Chicago Cubs / Atlanta Braves O6½ -105
- Chicago Cubs / Atlanta Braves U6½ -115
The numbers next to each total are the odds the bettor will receive on a winning bet.
