Horse Betting Online: It was “fast” on the main track last week at Fair Grounds, and we ever got a glimpse of a “firm” turf course. The only stakes race of the week wasn’t even a graded event, but it was certainly a much-anticipated race – it featured reigning Horse of the Year HAVRE DE GRACE in her 2012 debut.

Racing against four overmatched opponents, the horse betting champ delivered as expected, to the tune of 1/20 odds!

For the week there were 40 live races, with fields averaging 8.25 starters. Horse betting favorites dominated, winning at a 48-percent clip. Only four double-digit winners found the winner’s circle, none larger than 17/1 odds.

Horse betting handicappers will want to note the main track was not kind to “speed types” most of last week:

Thursday, March 15 – nine races over the main track and only one wire-to-wire horse betting winner.

Friday – March 16 – seven races over the main track and no wire-to-wire winners.

Saturday, March 17 – seven races over the main horse betting track and only one wire-to-wire winner.

This week’s “Fair Grounds Horse Betting Journal” covers racing from March 15-18.
