Horse Betting Online: Live racing at Fair Grounds last week kicked off with a special Fat Tuesday afternoon of action, and culminated with Louisiana Derby Preview Day on Saturday, with EL PADRINO narrowly defeating MARK VALESKI after a spirited stretch horse betting duel.

For the week, 49 races averaged a healthy 8.6 starters. Field size was especially strong over the horse betting weekend, with more than half of all races featuring fields of ten or more starters.

Horse betting favorites won just 27-percent of all races, and while there were no “boxcar winners,” there was a steady stream of solid-priced horse betting winners. This was especially true on Sunday, when not a single horse betting favorite found the winner’s circle and the lowest-priced winner was 7/2 odds.

This week’s “Fair Grounds Horse Betting Journal” covers racing from February 21-26.
