MLB Betting Online - Early bettors taking the over in total RBIs for 2012 baseball season

MLB Betting Online: The last two seasons in Major League Baseball were dubbed “ Year of the Pitcher. ” Perhaps that’s why oddsmakers are offering lower-than-normal totals for offensive prop statistics.

If you’re looking to take advantage of MLB betting online, look no further than BookMaker sportsbook. At the moment, the world’s leading online bookie is offering prop bets for the 2012 baseball season.

One of those props is a total on the most RBIs by a player during the regular season. The current over/under is set at 124.5. To play the over you have to lay a juice of -160 while the under is +120.

The 2007 season is really considered the last of the Steroid Era in baseball. That year, Alex Rodriguez, who admitted to using steroids earlier in his career, drove in 156 runners. The RBIs totals have only decreased since.

Ryan Howard registered 146 RBIs in 2008 but the next-closest player was Josh Hamilton with 130. Howard and Prince Fielder were the only two players with at least 140 RBIs in 2009 with each totaling 141.

The 2010 campaign saw the most drastic dip in runs batted in. Miguel Cabrera led MLB with just 126 RBIs. He was followed by Rodriguez at 125 and Jose Bautista at 124, but no one else had more than 118.

Hack Wilson holds the RBIs record with 191 in 1930. None of the top 15 RBIs seasons in baseball history came after 1938. Manny Ramirez is 16th on the all-time list with 165 RBIs in 1999.

Last year, the low RBIs total from 2010 wasn’t eclipsed. Matt Kemp took his first runs batted in crown during an MVP-caliber year with 126 RBIs. Including Kemp, there were only eight players that drove more than 110 runners.

Prince Fielder tallied 120 RBIs last season and he could be poised for a bigger year in 2012. He recently signed a $214 million contract with the Detroit Tigers.

The Tigers have a stacked lineup that features arguably the best all-around hitter in baseball in Cabrera. If there are runners on the bases and Miggy is at the plate in a critical situation, American League pitchers will often opt to pitch around and Cabrera to face Fielder. This will give Fielder ample opportunities to drive in runs.

With back-to-back seasons where 126 RBIs won the title, it makes sense that BookMaker dropped this year’s total to 124.5. But as evidenced by the inflated juice, the outfit is looking for action on the under because early bettors aren’t backing off the over.

The 2012 Major League Baseball season starts on Wednesday, April 4, with a game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins. Can’t wait that long to starting betting on baseball every day? No problem, you can wager on MLB betting online with BookMaker sportsbook today!
